there are different levels to animal lovers : (from the lowest level to the highest)
1 the people who think kittens and puppies are cute.
2 the people who think all baby animals are cute.
3 the people who want a pet but dont have the time for one.
4 the people who want a pet but cant afford one.
5 the people who have pets but dont really spend time with them.
6 the people who love their pets.
7 the people who obsessively take pictures with/of their pets.
8 the people who need their pets around.
9 the people who put their pets above human beings.
proudly, i admit that my family and i love our pets like no one and nothing else. they are our family members, they are more important than everything.
three days ago, we put to sleep the cat you see up there.
his name is Dust.
for a long time, he was suffering from damaged kidneys and on thursday, we made the choice to help him end his struggle. it was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make.
our last cat, Blyte, passed away from kidney failure too. she was twelve when we put her down.
you’d think it gets easier after the first time, but not with Dust.
Dust wasnt a normal cat. he had an obsession with people. he always had to be where the attention was.
he loved board games and mahjong (basically anything he could distract the humans from), he’d wait for you to read/write and then climb on top of and all over whatever it is youre doing.
he fell off the beds and tabletops.
he walked into doorways.
he sucked on the tips of our fingers and kissed us whenever we asked him to.
he never wanted to be alone and his quirks outnumbered all normal cat traits.
he was truly the only cat of his kind.
it is difficult to imagine a life without Dust, and our female cat, Twist, looks for him everywhere.
its going to be tough getting past this and we will never forget him or stop missing him, but we will eventually learn to get used to not having him around.
all we can do now is give Twist all the love and attention we’re physically and emotionally capable of giving; and know that Dust is having a good time up there.
that’s the only way to carry on.
